About Indie Speculative Fiction Writer

E. M. Dorsey

BIO

E. M. Dorsey is an indie speculative fiction writer of twisted modern folktales, urban fantasy creatures in unconventional settings, light horror, and dystopian fiction. She enjoys putting experimental spins on classic tropes and brainstorming “what if this was done differently?…” about any story that crosses her path. When not writing or world-building she can be found picking up a new read or hobby in her spare time.

Telling stories since she could talk, Dorsey has always had a love for story craft and setting the scene with whatever idea carried her fancy at the time. Her podcast “Telling Stories” harkens back to her homeschooled childhood sitting around the table with her siblings coming up with stories for their action figures and dolls on the fly at lunch.

Originally from sunny California, she is an Oregon transplant enjoying the PNW’s rainy days and greenery.

Dorsey publishes daily flash fiction to her newsletter and is working on her debut novel, “The Doe Prince” (tentatively scheduled for 2026).

Dorsey wears a lot of hats in her creative career. When not digitally publishing fiction or creating new lore for her world-building, she can be found curating content for other speculative fiction writers’ toolboxes over on ebonymonid.com or blogging about another new hobby she’s learning.

Her eyes-on-the-prize goals at the moment:

  1. Getting a black cat (because writers need a feline assistant and coffee to function)

  2. Setting up her publishing company UV Lantern Publishing

  3. Completing her debut novel “The Doe Prince” by 2026
